Winter in Santa Cruz

I had to get away today. I didn’t even bother with a shower, just threw on what was on the floor and jumped in the car. When I have a certain frustration I just want to get to the ocean. Back in college we had a winter condo in Florida and living in Minnesota I would be crawling out of my skin to get finals over with and on a plane. I always felt better once my feet were in the sand and I could smell the sea air. Thankfully the Pacific is only an hour away. It was a cool 57 degrees but the sun was warm. There I was. Just the sea, me and the hustle of the Boardwalk.

After amusing myself with Mimosa’s and playing on the Boardwalk…yup, I had to do something I never done before…the deep fried Twinkie.

It was rather a disappointment. Dipped and deep fried, it was like a pancake on a stick. The cream filling melts into a warm icing. Check that experience off my list. As much as I love the sea, I have a love-hate relationship with Santa Cruz…but I can’t blame the city for the hate part.
